Sirmione awarded with the Blue Flag for 2026
The Municipality of Sirmione is proud to announce that it has received the prestigious Blue Flag for the fourth consecutive year, an international recognition awarded by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) to locations distinguished for their environmental quality, sustainability, and services provided. The Giamaica Beach (Lido delle Grotte) has once again been honored, confirming its status as a symbolic place in the Sirmione area. The award ceremony took place on May 14, 2026, in Rome, at the Italian headquarters of FEE, with Deputy Mayor Maurizio Ferrari receiving the recognition on behalf of the Sirmione Municipal Administration.

The selection process for obtaining the Blue Flag is based on rigorous criteria evaluating various aspects, including the quality of bathing waters, sustainable land management, beach safety and accessibility, environmental education, waste management, and energy efficiency. This recognition reflects the ongoing commitment of the Municipal Administration to maintaining high standards in various areas.

The new Sustainability Plan 2026-2028 was instrumental in Sirmione’s candidacy and focuses on promoting sustainable mobility, energy efficiency, environmental protection, and hydrogeological safety. Several projects have already been implemented, such as the installation of advanced technologies in the elementary school, energy optimization in middle schools, the establishment of the Renewable Energy Community, and the promotion of waste separation through computerized eco-points.

The Blue Flag for 2026 has also been confirmed for Toscolano-Maderno and Gardone Riviera, with the addition of Limone sul Garda among the awarded locations. For Sirmione, this recognition is the result of a collective effort among various entities to preserve the lake and promote environmental sustainability.
