The Art of Mattia Marzorati: Representing Environmental Conflicts 50 Years after the Seveso Toxic Cloud Disaster
Fifty years after one of Italy’s most severe environmental disasters, artist Mattia Marzorati presents his photographic project dedicated to the Seveso disaster. The tragic event in July 1976, caused by the release of a toxic cloud containing TCDD dioxin, had devastating consequences on the environment and the population. Marzorati will also showcase his previous work titled “La terra dei buchi,” highlighting issues related to illegal waste disposal in the Brescia area.
Known for his commitment to portraying social and environmental issues, Mattia Marzorati began his artistic journey in Peru in 2015. After studying photography in Granada, he published various reportages in both Italian and international media, focusing on themes such as migrations in countries like Uganda, Lebanon, Bulgaria, Iran, and Greece. His project “La terra dei buchi” underscored the serious environmental and health repercussions of illegal waste disposal.
Emanuela Macelloni, a sociologist and researcher involved in the project Insieme per il Bosco with FARE and Circolo Legambiente Laura Conti di Seveso, will join the dialogue with Mattia Marzorati. The event will take place on Friday, May 22, 2026, at 8:45 PM, at the Municipal Library of Sirmione. Admission is free, but reservation is required to attend.
